Hold My Root Beer
Content warning: graphic violence. Hitting your friend is shown in slow motion with blood. You can reduce or turn off blood in Settings.
Your friend stands down range with an apple on their head. Hand someone your root beer and shoot the apple off. There are 14 stages, and every apple you hit moves you to the next, where the shot gets harder: from a lever-action rifle at 45 m and a magnified carbine, through pistols, a burst-fire submachine gun, buckshot, a hunting rifle, flintlocks, a slug gun and a compound bow, to the anti-materiel rifle at 300 m. The load, sight, posture and range all matter.
How to play
- Aim by moving the mouse (click Aim first to capture it), or drag on a touch screen. Arrow keys make fine adjustments.
- Look over the sights with V, the mouse wheel or the Wide view button (above Fire on a touch screen) to see the whole range and find your friend again. Press it again, or fire, to bring the sights back up.
- Hold your breath with Space, Shift or the Hold button. It steadies your aim for a few seconds; hold it too long and your aim gets worse.
- Fire with any click of the mouse or touchpad (left or right, a press or a tap), Enter or F, or the Fire button. On a laptop, Windows can ignore touchpad taps while a key is held: press the touchpad down, or set its Touchpad sensitivity to Most sensitive.
- Keep your sights steady through the shot. Every load has spread, even with a scope. A steady press helps; a flintlock needs follow-through during its ignition delay.
- Wind buffets your aim: the sight gets pushed downwind and wobbles with the gusts. The flags and the wind reading show strength and direction. Sights allow for the stated range and wind; small judging errors remain.
- Attempts: a clean miss uses one attempt. Run out and the game is over. Hit your friend and it is over at once. Every fifth apple gives an attempt back.
- Earn brass from every run and spend it on permanent upgrades: steadier hands, deeper lungs, a smoother trigger, steadier aim in wind and extra attempts.
